Hear Me Out: Finding Your Voice Through Debate
A Free Program for Teens and Adults with Intellectual Disability

In 2025, we launched Hear Me Out: Finding Your Voice Through Debate — a brand new, free program created especially for people with intellectual disability.

So far, we’ve delivered the program to two adult cohorts and one teen group, and the results have been incredible! Participants have embraced the challenge, discovering just how fun and empowering debating can be.

Hear Me Out helps participants:

  • Build confidence
  • Express themselves
  • Develop public speaking and communication skills
  • Strengthen critical thinking
  • Foster teamwork

All of this happens in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment where every voice is valued.

And we are also coming to the Gold Coast in 2026!

Hear Me Out helps participants build confidence, express themselves, and develop important skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork. All of this happens in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment—while learning about the rights of people with disabilities.

Participants will set their own personal goal for the program and work towards it through engaging games, group activities, and friendly debates. Along the way, they’ll make new friends and be supported by a team of passionate DSIDQ staff and Peer Mentors—people with lived experience who understand and are there to encourage every step of the journey.

This program has been co-designed with people with intellectual disability, ensuring it’s relevant, accessible, empowering, and participant-led.

This program will be run out of the DSIDQ office located in Ascot QLD and a location on the Gold Coast.

Spots are limited, so don’t miss out!
